HOW IT STARTED

The original mural for the fine art print was created out of curiosity and fulfilled a yearning and a calling I didn’t know existed. A few years ago, I moved into a new house and a new neighbourhood. The lockdown from COVID-19 era was still happening and to get to know my community, I posted on the neighbourhood page for anyone who would be interested to do “The Artist Way” book by Julia Cameron. A group of talented, self driven women (as I found out later) joined in and we worked through the book week by week. We all shared vulnerably and bravely. We witnessed each other’s strengths and insecurities. At that time, I was writing poetry and writing incessantly.

One week, I saw on the internet a picture of someone painting their wall with floral patterns. I asked the women, “What did they use to paint this?” and that’s how my journeys to Hobbycraft and art stores to buy acrylic paint and brushes began. I bought only a black paint in the beginning. Little did I know that, soon, my curiosity and obsession for colours would begin. One brushstroke turned into several and in two years, I had filled three rooms of my house with wall size, very large murals. Each full of details that can be enjoyed for a closer look or to view in its entirety.

This work is now part of a completion within the cycle of creation. I want these pieces to live beyond the walls of my home. The completion is an invitation for you to come into this world of art and stories. I offer a piece of my home to you. I hope you will find a grounding, a peaceful place to land on and get acquainted with (see video above for the story of this piece).

Whilst the artist’s goal is greatness, it’s also to move forward. In service to the next project we finish the current one. In service to the current one, we finish it so it can be set free into the world… Begun, Completed, Released. Each a time stamp, commemorating a moment of passage, a moment filled with energy, now forever embodied in a work of art. ~ Rick Rubin
